Piano and Guitar Lessons

My Background

My background education, training, teaching experience and performances includes Kaiserslautern Germany , Schaller Music School of Germany, Bachelor of Music — DePaul University School of Music, DePaul University Guitar Ensemble. I have been teaching private music lessons for over 15 years.

Why music lessons

01

Creative Thinking

Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems. They also achieve higher grades in school.

02

Development

Musical training helps develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning.

03

Achieving Excellence

Through music study, students learn the value of sustained effort to achieve excellence and the concrete rewards of hard work.

04

Discipline

Music study enhances self discipline

05

Self-Expression

Music provides children with a means of self-expression. Self-esteem is a by-product of this self-expression.

06

Risk Taking

Music performance teaches young people to conquer fear and to take risks. Risk-taking is essential if a child is to fully develop his or her potential.

$25 per 30 minutes

View the Studio Policy

1. All lesson fees are payable one month in advance (usually at the first lesson of the month). The teacher will give makeup lessons if a class was missed due to a mishap, and will reschedule the lesson. Piano Lesson s are not subject to a term contract of any kind. The parents, adult student, or the teacher may terminate lessons at any time with one month prior notification.

2. A lesson will be excused for emergencies only. These should be rare and we as the teachers will be the sole judge of their validity. The following will describe what is excused and what is not:

Acts of God like snow-sleet-hurricane-Excused
Death of family member-funerals-Excused
Serious illness-broken bones etc.-Excused
Family Vacations with a two week advance notice-Excused
Lack of transportation-Not Excused
Didn't practice for this week-Not Excused

3. Non-emergency cancellations, last-minute cancellations, and "no-shows" will necessitate charging the full lesson fee of the unused time reserved for the student. The lesson that was missed due to a no show WILL NOT BE rescheduled for another date.

4. If a student arrives late for their lesson I will try to compensate for the time missed by either ending the session late, or scheduling the student to come in earlier for the next lesson.

5. Elementary, Middle School, & Adult Beginners
For children ages 6+ and adults with or without previous piano experience lessons are given for 30 minutes of concentrated instruction once each week. These students are required to practice a minimum of 30 minutes each day (which may be broken into two segments if necessary). All students must have a piano or a large electronic keyboard (61 or more full-size keys) at home for practice. The cost of instruction is $25.00 for each 30 minute-lesson given in my studio, for children ages 6+ and likewise for adult beginners. Fees are to be paid monthly in advance. This fee does not include the cost of music books or sheet music that the teacher will provide to the student on a nonprofit, reimbursement basis. Parents will receive a separate bill for each new book or sheet music solo. The regular monthly tuition payment for one student is $200.00 for 60 minute-lesson and $100.00 for a 30 minute-lesson, payable at the first lesson of each month.

6. Holidays and Lessons
The Piano Studio will CLOSE one week for Christmas the week of Spring Break. However, the tuition payment for both of these months will remain the same as all other months. For Thanksgiving week, all lessons will meet except Thanksgiving Day. That lesson (Thursday) will be rescheduled by the teacher BEFORE Thanksgiving or AFTER Thanksgiving. Federal Holidays are not observed, and the studio will remain open however if a family trip is planned I will reschedule a lesson. See the posted Holiday Calendar.

*Any refunds due to special circumstances (i.e. severe illness, military leave of absence, etc.) are mailed within a 90 day period. Proof of specific leave needs to be presented.

Lesson Fees
Music lessons meet once a week and all level students perform in a recital held twice a year (Christmas and Spring recital). Students also have access to my web resources which includes online interactive lessons, theory practice and my holiday & lesson schedule.

Private Piano and Classical Guitar Instruction
Lessons are $25.00/30 minutes in my studio. Lessons are scheduled every week and payments are due at the 1st lesson of every month.

For prospective students with experience, an initial interview will be scheduled. Students are to perform a piece, sightread music provided by myself, and complete a theory evaluation. There is no lesson fee for the first scheduled lesson.

Recitals
Recitals are held twice a year and there is a $10.00 activity fee for each student. This covers the cost of the room rental.

Books and Materials
The initial book and material fee for new beginning guitar students will be determined by skill level.
